State of Michigan’s Grant Program for Worker Training

If the answer is yes to any of these questions, your company is a candidate for the Going PRO Talent Fund (GPTF). 

GPTF is the state of Michigan's grant program that covers the cost of employee training.

It's no secret. Almost every type of business is facing labor shortages and challenges in attracting and retaining talent. It is vital in today's labor market for employers to initiate successful training programs for new and existing employees. Effective workforce training programs have proven to help both attract and retain talent. It shows employees they are valued, leads to reduced absenteeism, increases productivity, and improves employee morale. 

Last year, 1,037 Michigan companies received over $40 million in grant awards that provided training to over 27,000 employees. Types of companies that received awards included:

Child care providers

Medical offices

Skilled trades contractors

Restaurants and caterers

Manufacturers

Nursing homes

Automotive dealerships

Non-profit organizations

Software companies

Architectural firms

Recreational facilities

This year, the state is making available $55 million in training dollars. Companies can apply for up to $2,000 per employee for training and up to $3,500 for USDOL Registered Apprenticeship training. 

Upcoming Employer Orientation Sessions

Macomb-St. Clair MichiganWorks! is hosting four Employer Orientation Sessions to provide information on the program guidelines, application process, and available resources to work with companies throughout the process. Ample time is available during these sessions for employers to ask questions specific to their worker training needs. 

September 15th at 12:30 pm: Virtual session

September 20th at 8:30 am: Virtual session

September 27th at 8:00 am: In-person session in Clinton Township (21885 Dunham Road, Assembly Room A/B)

September 28th at 8:30 am: In-person session in Port Huron (100 McMorran Boulevard, Conference Room 408, 4th Floor)
