Michigan Soars 19 Spots - Now Ranks 13th Best State to Do Business

Michigan’s jump of 19 spots, to No. 13, was one of the biggest single-year moves in the Best & Worst States for Business ranking history and reflected a broad surge of confidence by CEOs even as the auto industry has leveled off. “We’re seeing a diversification in the economy including more tech firms,” says Alan Barr, CEO of Creative Change, a consulting firm in Manistique, Michigan.

According to Chief Executive Magazine, CEO's who weighed in on a recent survey cited a number of factors that helped drive Michigan's jump to include:

  • Talent (Top 10 Skilled Trades Workforce and Highest Concentration of Engineers in the Nation)
  • Overall Favorable Business Climate / Conditions
  • Continued Growth in Manfuacturing Sector (Automotive, Advanced Manufacturing, Medical Device, etc.)
  • Low Cost of Living 
  • Regulatory Environment
