TITLE: Product Design Engineer (#1689)

DUTIES: P.J. Wallbank Springs, Inc. seeks a Product Design Engineer based out of our U.S. headquarters at 2121 Beard St., Port Huron, Michigan 48060. Note, this person will have the option of working: (i) entirely from the aforementioned office address, (ii) entirely from home (in a telecommuting capacity), or (iii) in a hybrid (part remote/part-in-person) capacity. Therefore, it would be possible for the person to reside anywhere within the United State. Note, this position requires international and/or domestic travel up to 25% of the time.

Serve as a key member of the engineering team, maintaining a direct and significant impact internally and externally through the communication practices and competency, in order to develop designs that both enable success in manufacturing and deliver an optimal customer solution; Support interactions with customers to understand product specifications and design products that meet customer expectations, as well as, meet internal manufacturability, cost, and quality requirements; Analyze working environments, product specifications, and performance requirements to develop optimized spring assembly designs that can be produced utilizing existing manufacturing methods; Work closely with Sales and Application Engineering teams to find and create new business opportunities; Drive and develop novel designs and R&D to support future business opportunities; Lead the furthering of PJWS knowledge in spring design and the respective raw materials in order to drive the improvement of the organization’s internal design practices, with the aim of increasing its spring design capability; Interface with current and potential customers on new and existing designs; Conduct prototype and production quoting processes with technical design inputs; Interface with suppliers on technical design details to support receipt of quotes; Assure detailed drawings are completed on time and comply with both internal and external customer requirements and expectations; Support current product design changes as part of the APQP process; Drive VA/VE initiatives; Champion and proactively pursue continuous improvement projects, especially as it pertains to design and engineering change processes.
