The Judicial Secretary provides the Judge(s) with administrative support, which includes coordination of the Judge(s) business schedule and Court Docket; performing administrative work necessary to manage and coordinate a Judge(s) office; and acts as a liaison between the Judge(s) and Court staff, law enforcement agencies and legal professionals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates, manages and monitors caseload docket for Circuit Judge(s).
  • Wide discretion is allowed for the exercise of independent judgment.
  • Deals routinely with confidential and privileged information.
  • Prepares court orders, commitments and schedules and serves as criminal courtroom staff.
  • Assures that priority is given on criminal docket to incarcerated defendants for trial and sentences.
  • Compose and prepare correspondence and reports. Prepare letters, forms, reports.
  • Receive and answer correspondence. Maintain files and records; arrange appointments, schedules, meetings and conferences for Circuit Judge(s).
  • Coordinate assignments of court reporters and other courtroom staff.
  • Manage court docket and case schedules in a manner which enables the judge to meet case-flow standards.
  • Perform public contact work requiring advanced knowledge of court rules and policies.
  • Make necessary decisions to resolve or refer appointments, complaints and requests for court services.
  • Perform liaison duties with other court and county offices as required.
  • Compile information, compose and prepare records and reports requiring familiarity with departmental activities.
  • Answer telephone and other inquiries requiring advanced knowledge of court rules and regulations.
  • Handle responsible administrative projects as assigned by Circuit Judge.
  • Prepares and timely processes judgments and orders at the direction of the Judge including commitments to jail, prison and treatment facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
