Position Overview:
We are currently hiring a qualified Aerial Lineman with experience in fiber-optic construction. The Aerial Lineman will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead fiber-optic cables used in Duke Broadband’s high-speed internet network. This role involves working at heights, operating specialized equipment, and ensuring work is completed according to industry standards and safety protocols.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, and repair overhead fiber-optic lines and support hardware on utility poles.
- Perform lashing of fiber cables onto existing strand.
- Safely climb utility poles using gaffs, hooks, or bucket trucks when needed.
- Handle pole transfers, grounding, guy wire installations, and aerial-to-underground transitions.
- Use aerial construction equipment including bucket trucks, lashers, winches, hoists, and hand tools.
- Interpret engineering prints, schematics, and job site documentation to execute work plans accurately.
- Communicate clearly with project managers, splicers, and ground crew members.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment.
- Ensure job sites are restored to original condition and comply with Duke Broadband’s quality standards.
- Follow company safety standards at all times.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in aerial telecom line construction.
- Ability to safely climb poles and work at heights exceeding 30 feet.
- Proficient in the use of aerial construction tools and equipment (lasher, lanyards, fall arrest systems, bucket truck, etc.).
- Familiar with national safety codes, utility separation standards, and pole loading guidelines.
- Strong understanding of fiber-optic cable handling and tensioning best practices.
- Ability to read and interpret utility maps, construction prints, and fiber schematics.
- Physically fit and capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, twisting, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Must have a valid driver’s license (CDL preferred or willingness to obtain).
