Quality of Life

The St. Clair County lifestyle offers the best of all worlds, a community known for its tranquil small towns, pastoral charms, and drop-dead gorgeous water views. Our waterfront stretches for more than 75 miles from Anchor Bay to Lake Huron, and inland rivers meander through more than 700 square miles of farmland and forest.

Yet we also are blessed with proximity to world-class cultural events and pro sports. Detroit is within an hour’s commute, and a St. Clair County resident can eat breakfast at home and be in downtown Toronto for lunch without rushing.

We’re a border community, a gateway to Canada, and we also sit astride the busy seaway that connects the upper and lower Great Lakes.

Our county seat, Port Huron, and its sister city, Sarnia, Ontario, form a retail center of nearly 200,000 people. That’s large enough to support excellent shopping as well as Port Huron’s unique and much-acclaimed restaurant district.

St. Clair County also has emerged as a regional center for health care, with three major hospitals providing more than 400 beds. Our local schools include some of the highest rated in Michigan, and local crime rates are significantly lower than state and national averages.

If you love the outdoor life, you’ll love our well-maintained county parks, our miles of hiking and cycling trails, our unrivaled sailing and paddling – including Michigan’s first National Water Trail – and our unfathomably blue water.

Come and join us. Discover the Blue.
