Science Saildrones Spotted in St. Clair County

October 14, 2021

The U.S. Geological Survey and Saildrone, Inc. launched two uncrewed saildrone explorers this summer for a 45-day sailing mission to collect fisheries data in Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. The drones were spotted this week in the St. Clair River and Black River canal. Invasive mussels and other factors could threaten many of the top freshwater game species. Data collected will be used to help inform sustainable management of the $7 billion Great Lakes fishing industry.
