$100,000 Site Readiness Grant Awarded to City of Port Huron
September 3, 2019
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) has approved a Site Readiness Grant submitted by the Economic Development Alliance to prepare up to 25 vacant acres in the Port Huron Industrial Park to be closer to “shovel ready” status. The City of Port Huron has committed up to $100,000 to equally match the MEDC grant.
The Site Readiness Grant will assist in clearing, tree/bush removal, stump grinding and leveling, ground seeding and fertilizing, geotechnical investigation and site borings of the parcels, potential site development studies and site material development. The industrial zoned acreage is located at Dove Road.
“Clearing, preparation and environmental testing of the land will increase the confidence of prospective investors and enhance site readiness,” said Mayor, Pauline Repp. “We’ve run out of available buildings in the Industrial Park with near full occupancy. This will help us prepare for anticipated growth and compete for potential new projects that often come with rapid construction deadlines.”
In April, the MEDC announced an initial commitment of $1.5 million to the new Site Readiness Grant Program aimed at increasing the number of available properties ready for business development. However, the MEDC received so many requests, that they increased the Site Readiness Program initiative to eventually approve $3.3 million in projects.
“The EDA worked closely with the City of Port Huron on the grant application and is very pleased Port Huron will be receiving the maximum grant award allowed by the Site Readiness Program. We will continue to work with the City of Port Huron on the next steps to prepare these parcels to compete for business attraction projects,” said Dan Casey, CEO of the EDA of St. Clair County.
