Job Summary:

The Prototype Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating prototype manufacturing activities to ensure all projects meet customer requirements, quality standards, and production timelines. This role collaborates closely with internal teams and customers to develop part concepts, tooling, and physical prototypes while maintaining efficient shop operations. 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all work meets blueprint specifications and job requirements 
  • Monitor production processes to maintain high-quality standards 
  • Address and resolve quality issues promptly 
  • Coordinate workflow and job assignments for optimal efficiency 
  • Support the development of prototypes from concept to completion 
  • Ensure timely delivery of prototype parts 
  • Operate within established cost standards 
  • Support efficient use of materials, labor, and equipment 
  • Communicate project updates, concerns, and priorities to management and internal teams 
  • Collaborate with Prototype Manager, Designer, and Inside Sales Coordinator 
  • Interface with customers as needed 
  • Assist in designing tooling, layouts, and product concepts 
  • Create and review 10X mylars and prototype documentation 
  • Support blank development and product design activities

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily workflow of the department.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations. 
  • Uses ERP (plex) to monitor adjust and approve time clock records and manage time off management. 
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 
  • Lead and coordinate daily activities of prototype technicians, CNC technicians, operators, material handlers, and up-graders 
  • Assign and prioritize work based on job kick-off requirements 
  • Ensure alignment with production schedules and customer expectations

  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Cadkey, Mastercam) 
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and technical drawings 
  • Experience with shop equipment and computer systems

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of tool & die experience preferred 
  • Experience in clip and/or bracketry manufacturing is a plus 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds at times.
