THE CITY OF PORT HURON IS CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE FOLLOWING FULL-TIME EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY:
CITY MASTER ELECTRICIAN
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: To perform highly skilled maintenance and repair work on a variety of high voltage electrical equipment; to perform electrical inspection work, knowledge of and certification in the repair and service of traffic signals and related systems; to prepare records and reports, and to perform related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Work is performed under the general supervision of the Streets Motor Vehicle Pool Foreman or other designated official.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: An employee in this class may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (These examples do not include all of the tasks which the employee may be expected to perform.)
- Install, maintain and repair electrical equipment and devices including wiring, motors, switches, relays, and other high voltage electrical equipment.
- Perform electrical tests to determine causes of electrical failures.
- Measure, cut, thread, bend and install electrical conduit.
- Maintain records and wiring diagrams.
- Perform preventive maintenance on motors, relays, switches and other high voltage electrical equipment.
- Troubleshoot electrical failures.
- Prepare records and reports.
- Perform miscellaneous building and electrical inspection work.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment at all City owned facilities including, but not limited to, the Wastewater Treatment Plant, Water Filtration Plant, Municipal Office Center (MOC), marinas, parks, lift bridges, water towers and pump stations, as well as, any other electrical request as deemed necessary.
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, clean and service traffic signal controllers.
- Check and repair electrical services and lights, including 110, 220, 480 & 600+ (up to 4.8 k.v.) volt systems.
- Perform MISS DIG staking requests of City owned electrical infrastructure.
- Design and install required electrical for special events.
- Perform related work as required.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT:
- Certifications in the operation and maintenance of traffic signal controllers and related systems.
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of various types of heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, and practices used in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment and devices.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary precautions in high voltage electrical work.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams and blueprints.
- Ability to analyze complex electrical equipment failures.
- Skill in the use of tools and equipment used in electrical work.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Laptop computer skills or aptitude.
- Extensive knowledge and training in MIOSHA safety standards.
- Ability to work effectively with other employees.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Ability to work with/in arc flash rated personal protective equipment (PPE).
