Today, the Michigan Strategic Fund (MSF) in cooperation with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) announced the approval of a $750,000 performance-based grant for R & E Automated Systems.  The company, headquartered in Romeo, Michigan, provides automation, prototyping and engineering services for more than 600 global clients in several industries, including automotive.  R &E operates four facilities in Michigan and has operations in South Carolina and Mexico.

R & E Automated Systems is purchasing a 141,000-square-foot industrial building located on 20th Street from MAG Powertrain.  The facility was constructed in 1980 to support the machine-tool industry.  The five-year, two-phase project includes investment of $14.4 million and creation of 176 new jobs.

"We are happy to be expanding into a new Michigan community," said Dan Jaraczewski, the sole proprietor of R&E Automated, a company he started in 1999, located now in Romeo, Macomb, Taylor and now Port Huron, Michigan.  "We have a great opportunity to grow not only our business and our Team, but also our efforts to create a brighter future for the children of Michigan."

R&E Automated Systems and its growing team support a home grown and employee driven foundation.  DRIVE- R&E Family Foundation is operated with a particular interest in the health, welfare and education of Michigan’s children.

DRIVE focuses on the wellness of children—offering assistance in health, nutrition, safety and common needs. The foundation is continuously creating partnerships with local schools to help the availability of education to children of all ages who do not have the means to participate in higher education and training. DRIVE strives to create scholarships and other assistance programs to assist in the growth and education enhancement of the community’s youth.

"Our growing Team - now to include the great people of Port Huron - looks forward to a bright future with this expansion," said Dan. "Employing Michigan citizens, making Michigan products and making a difference in the lives of Michigan's children."

The Michigan Business Development Program is available to eligible businesses that create qualified new jobs and/or make qualified new investment in Michigan.  Michigan was in competition with South Carolina for this project.

“We are seeing more automation occurring in our industrial parks,” said Mayor of the City of Port Huron, Pauline Repp.  “The whole industry is moving in that direction due to global competition.  We’re excited to see a company that specializes in automation and prototyping moving into the community.”  Mayor Repp also noted that the company will offer very competitive wages.  “R & E will be bringing good paying jobs to the community, and recruiting professionals, including engineers, locally and in the region.

Economic Development Alliance worked to recruit the company.  It will be providing hiring support, including hosting a job fair to fill the company’s positions.  Macomb/St. Clair Michigan Works also will be providing hiring support, including the posting of positions on the state’s jobs database, and other recruiting assistance.

“EDA has developed marketing tools to assist companies with national and regional talent recruitment,” said Dan Casey, CEO of the Economic Development Alliance.  “We’ll deploy those tools and also work with our local training partners at St. Clair Community College and RESA to provide R & E with a pipeline of talent as the company’s hiring needs expand.”
