Signature Events

Our calendar isn’t marked just with days and months, we also track the seasons by signature events.

  • Port Huron-to-Mackinac Sailboat Races
  • Offshore Power Boat Races
  • Miss Michigan USA and Miss Michigan Teen USA Beauty Pageant
  • International Silver Sticks Hockey Tournament
  • First Robotics►™ Marysville District Robotics Competition

It wouldn’t be January without the International Silver Stick, which for more than 50 years has brought the cream of North American youth hockey here for a series of tournaments.

Nor could it be July without sailboat racing from Port Huron to Mackinac Island at the opposite end of Lake Huron. First held in 1925, the annual race inspired Blue Water Fest, a five-day celebration where thousands of people flock to the Black River to admire scores of sleek sailboats while savoring the splendors of a Michigan summer.

And it wouldn’t be September without the pageantry of Miss Michigan USA and Miss Michigan Teen USA, where lovely and talented young women from across the state compete for scholarships.

There are signatures events for every other month, too. From the Pickerel Festival in Algonac to the Bologna Festival in Yale, these are often unique and quaint, and always plain good fun.
